The Swing Riot Manifesto
A dance event that promotes Lindy Hop, good swingin’ jazz and the Montreal street culture. A venue for people to express themselves and leave it all out on the dance floor. A moment that unites dancers and spectators together in shared creativity and inspiration.
Montreal Swing Riot features a full weekend of dancing in the heart of the Montreal International Jazz Festival, competitions and showcases, three nights of live music. Come share and get inspired on July 4-6, 2025!
Our Story
Since 2012, Montreal Swing Riot has sought to bring together the Jazz dance and Street Dance communities to share and inspire.
Over five editions, we built a space where people could come together to celebrate good jazz music and dance that is both rooted in tradition and that embraces vulnerability and self-expression.
We introduced some groundbreaking contest formats like the Vintage vs Modern Street Dancers Invitational Battle and the All That Jazz contest. We also timed it with the Montreal International Jazz Festival (the biggest jazz fest in the world, according to Guinness World Records!) to showcase Montreal’s unique mix of French, English, and Indigenous cultures.
The 6th edition of Montreal Swing Riot will take place July 4-6, 2025. Since our last edition in 2017, our Swing Riot family has grown, welcoming many future Lindy Hoppers to the world (we hope) who will continue on these traditions and art forms.
BATTLE CONTESTS, WORKSHOPS, SOCIAL DANCING
You can expect epic contests, workshops that feel like a party, and live music all weekend long, and a whole lot of good vibes.
Come for the social dancing, stay for the fun, and experience a weekend full of laughter, inspiration and memorable moments. You’ll make new friends, reconnect with old ones, and dance to some seriously hot tunes by some of Montreal’s finest musicians— all while feeling that warm je ne sais quoi Montreal-Québécois hospitality.
daytime activities
We will host daytime activities on Saturday and Sunday, which will include classes with culturally-informed educators and artists, social dancing and contests.
In addition, we invite you to check out the free outdoor shows at the Montreal International Jazz Festival.

All That Jazz
Compétition ouverte à tous les niveaux de danseurs. Les inscriptions en couple ou en solo sont permises. Tous danseront dans la même division. Plusieurs styles musicaux seront proposés aux compétiteurs (trad jazz, big band swing, old timey, bebop, boogie) qui devront tenter au maximum de s’adapter aux différents genre musicaux. Venez démontrer votre versatilité, vos connaissances par rapport l’histoire de la danse, ainsi que votre amour pour le jazz. Le ou les champions seront déterminés par des juges.
Open to dancers of all levels. You may register as an individual or a couple and will be judged in the same division. Dancers will show their versatility and ability to adapt to different styles of jazz music (New Orleans trad jazz, big band swing, bebop, caribbean, boogie woogie). Finalists and champions will be chosen by our panel of judges.
